Reed Law Corporation Forms ‘Distressed Real Estate Practice Group’
To Help Clients Navigate Difficult Restructurings and Workouts
(Fullerton, Calif., May 11, 2009) -- Recognizing that today’s economic climate is requiring an accelerated level of legal expertise in handling real estate transactions, the Reed Law Corporation (www.reed-lawcorp.com), based in Fullerton, Calif., has launched its Distressed Real Estate Practice Group, according to Managing Partner Karyn K. Reed.
"These types of complicated, and often contentious, real estate transactions have been a key aspect of our practice for years. Because critical, strategic skills are needed by so many more people, for even more complicated matters, we have carved out a separate practice area within our firm," explained Reed, who has 12 years of experience dealing with these issues.
Since the start of this year, Reed’s Distressed Real Estate Practice Group has seen exponential expansion in such matters as: complex workouts and restructuring deals; handling pre-litigation disputes; joint venture disputes; foreclosure avoidance strategies; and landlord-tenant issues.
Beyond the typical experience held by real estate attorneys, the transactions required in this challenging economy are increasingly complex and contentious. Reed Law is well suited to handle these issues, providing clients with practical and cost-effective guidance and solutions.
Reed’s expertise includes real estate acquisition, disposition, development, title and survey review, land use entitlement, leasing, finance and joint venturing. Such expertise spans the property sector, including office, industrial, retail, multi-family, residential and raw land.
"Our strategic counsel provides the groundwork for achieving optimal asset workout, restructuring, recovery and/or liquidation," Reed added. "While today’s economy is forcing many companies and individuals into uncomfortable situations, our goal is to make these situations as 'do-able' as possible, preventing our clients from further compounding their problems with weak legal guidance."
Prior to forming the boutique Reed Law in 2002, Reed was an attorney with Latham & Watkins LLP, in the finance and real estate department, and with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, in the real estate practice group in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Earlier, Reed was an attorney at a Los Angeles firm working on complex litigation matters in several practice areas including telecommunications fraud, toxic torts and construction defects.
Reed earned her JD from University of San Diego School of Law and is admitted to the state bars of California and Pennsylvania. She also is licensed as a broker by the California Department of Real Estate.
